Weekly Wishes: Officially Self-Hostedfeatured

Weekly Wishes {the ponytail diaries}

I’m linking up with Melyssa at Nectar Collective today to share my wishes/goals for next week. Join in!

I can’t tell you how wonderful it felt to wake up on Sunday and not be facing a double-digit training run. I only went out on three super easy, relaxed runs last week and took the weekend off entirely. The best part is now I’m totally ready to ease back into regular running and eventually some tough speed training.

Also last weekend, Husband and I took advantage of a new Sprint “deal” and got us a pair of iPhone 6s. They’re pretty sweet. There’s so much junk on my old phone I opted not to automatically transfer everything to the new one and instead I’m taking my time adding apps and contacts and stuff. I was having serious storage problems with my old phone (partly because it was a 4S and I stupidly updated iOS 8), so I’m trying to be a little more intentional and only adding apps and stuff I actually “need” and use.

Last Week’s Wishes

01 | switch to self-hosting
Done. Yee Gods, I spent way too much time on Sunday pulling my hair out over that. Hopefully if you were following in Feedly, Bloglovin’, or some other reader you’ve found your way here and updated your bookmarks and stuff (and thank you!!! if you have). I tried two different plugins to redirect theponytaildiaries.wordpress.com here and to update all my internal links and neither one did a damn thing, so I guess I’m leaving the old site up for a bit at least.

02 | take Onyx on some runs
Took her for a short jog Friday and we hiked up Cowles Mountain on Saturday. She sure seemed happy both times. I love running with her, but I’m also looking forward to a couple solo runs this week (now that it seems like my right arch is back to…well, 95% at least).

03 | work on my portfolio
I gathered some more clips together (a lot are print pieces so I’ve had to scan or track down PDFs), but still haven’t uploaded them.

This Week’s Wishes

01 | update my blog theme

02 | 30-Day Yoga Challenge
I signed up for this after seeing a bunch of bloggers rave about Erin Motz. I’m only going to use these videos when I don’t hit up the studio (which I want to do 2-3 times a week), so it’ll take me longer than 30 days, but I’m hoping they help me start a regular home practice.

03 | fix my sleep habits, phase I
This will be an ongoing thing (much longer than just this week), but my sleep schedule and habits have been atrocious lately. I’ve been taking advantage of the work-from-home freelance lifestyle and sleeping in way too late, I’ve been glued to screens way too late at night, I’m tossing and turning when I finally do get to bed…it’s not good. So this week I want to start with a strict 9:00 curfew for my laptop and phone, so I can read a bit and get settled and ready for bed earlier (hopefully by 10:00).

04 | be more intentional with social networking
I’m going to try blocking off specific chunks of time each day to “network” (I really, really hate using network as a verb) on, say, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook groups, or community forums. Because I know I could be using these a lot more effectively.

What are your goals for this week?

  • My sleeping habits have been a hot mess since the new year started! Hoping I can get a handle on that too! Good luck this week!!

    • Allison

      Thanks Alisha!

  • My sleep is so bad as well, that’s one of my wishes for this week. It’s a problem and I so need to make getting more sleep a priority. It’s hard sometimes to be intentional about social networking yet it’s so effective but time consuming at least for me. good luck with your goals this week.

    • Allison

Thanks Cassandre! Bad sleep habits really turn into an awful neverending (worsening) cycle.

  • Uhh I need a sleep goal too! I have a terrible time winding down for the night, mostly because that’s when my day job is over and my night job (blogging, learning photoshop, etc.) gets some love and I just get too excited and worked up to go to sleep!

    Good luck this week!!!

    • Allison

Same! I always get great ideas when I’m doing something like brushing my teeth and it’s like I HAVE TO WRITE THIS DOWN RIGHT NOW.

  • Wow, for someone who just went self hosted, your blog is looking pretty sleek! Mine was awful for a couple of months after I moved across, while I tried desperately to figure out how to make it look how I wanted!

Regarding your sleep, check out the Sleep Guru: http://www.thesleepguru.co.uk/ Anandi is lovely and has suffered with terrible insomnia herself. She has a blog which has loads of ideas for how to maintain a good sleep rhythm and I think there are some free downloads on there too x

    • Allison

Ahh, thanks, I’ll check out Anandi’s blog!

I’m still making tweaks to the blog (probably forever). I still have the same free theme I was using on wordpress.com, but I want to upgrade soon.

  • Yay for switching over to self-hosting šŸ™‚ I like Erin’s 30 Day Challenge and I started another one this month too. It’s an easy way to make sure I get my yoga in šŸ™‚ I want to try out some studio classes at some point!

    • Allison

I’m really liking her classes so far. Let me know if you want any studio recommendations šŸ™‚
