My thought process when I looked at this week’s prompt:
Oh, this’ll be easy! Things I like about myself…well, my sense of humor…compassion…um…hmm…can ‘love of reading’ count?
Turns out…easy to think of things I like, things I enjoy talking about, things I enjoy doing…not so easy to think about actual traits I have that I like. But! I still came up with a list:
Sense of humor
Honestly, largely because my dad sometimes tells me that my sense of humor is a lot like his dad’s. His dad died when I was only five, so I unfortunately never got to know him that well. It’s nice to know that I have something in common with him.
That sense of humor (if you haven’t picked up on any of it from this blog) runs heavily towards dry and sarcastic. I’m a riot at parties.
There is absolutely nothing I wouldn’t do for my family and friends. End of story.
Last week, I somehow found a listing for a legit castle for sale in France. It was huge. Epic. Like, hundreds of rooms and acres and acres and a MOAT and I showed it to Husband and said “We can buy it and adopt ALL the dogs and they’ll have all the space they need!”
This is literally how my mind operates. I used to like some animal rescue groups on Facebook and I had to unlike them because I couldn’t handle seeing all the pictures of dogs that need homes.
You know why this list was so hard? Because I didn’t want to be all “oh, I’m super smart, I aced the SATs and graduated magna cum laude and whatever.” But them’s the facts (I wouldn’t actually said I “aced” the SATs but I scored well above average, if I remember right). And I’m proud of my accomplishments in school (for all the good memorizing the elements of epic poetry did me) and I like that I have a good deal of intellectual curiosity.
Sometimes I think I’m not all that creative, because I’m really awesome at coming up with Big! Fun! Cool! Ideas! but not so great at executing them. But output is far from the only way of measuring creativity (though improving the output is most definitely a goal of mine).
Bonus: I kind of dig the fact that I’m a “tomboy” and love sports and being active and outdoorsy and stuff.
What do you like about yourself? It’s an oddly uncomfortable exercise. Have fun!
