I’m linking up with Mariah and Katie again for Into the Pint Glass! This time, we’re giving ciders a try.
I…know absolutely nothing about ciders, and I don’t drink them much (or ever). I don’t have anything against them, per se; I just never choose a cider over beer.
So go check out the girls’ blogs for a more detailed description of what exactly makes something a cider.
Luckily it was easier to find one to sample this week — I checked out Bine & Vine in Normal Heights and they have one case just for ciders. So I was able to scan that quickly and grabbed a bottle of Anthem Cherry Cider, mainly because it wasn’t super expensive and I tend to like cherry-flavored things.
Anthem Cherry Cider (5.5% ABV)
Color/appearance: As I was pouring, it looked pretty pink. Once in the glass, it was a deep reddish-amber.
Aroma: Tart cherries and apples.
Taste: It was more apple-y and not as cherry-ish as I expected, almost champagne-y. The cherry flavor really hit on the finish. It was very light and not super bubbly.
Overall: Pretty tasty and very drinkable. I liked that it wasn’t overly sweet and really wasn’t too tart either — it was pretty balanced. I still probably wouldn’t choose a cider over a beer, but I wouldn’t just automatically ignore this or other ciders if they were available.
Are you a cider person?
