Into the Pint Glass: Ciderfeatured

I’m linking up with Mariah and Katie again for Into the Pint Glass! This time, we’re giving ciders a try.

I…know absolutely nothing about ciders, and I don’t drink them much (or ever). I don’t have anything against them, per se; I just never choose a cider over beer.

So go check out the girls’ blogs for a more detailed description of what exactly makes something a cider.

Luckily it was easier to find one to sample this week — I checked outΒ Bine & Vine in Normal Heights and they have one case just for ciders. So I was able to scan that quickly and grabbed a bottle of Anthem Cherry Cider, mainly because it wasn’t super expensive and I tend to like cherry-flavored things.

Anthem Cherry Cider (5.5% ABV)

Color/appearance: As I was pouring, it looked pretty pink. Once in the glass, it was a deep reddish-amber.

Aroma: Tart cherries and apples.

Taste: It was more apple-y and not as cherry-ish as I expected, almost champagne-y. The cherry flavor really hit on the finish. It was very light and not super bubbly.

Overall: Pretty tasty and very drinkable. I liked that it wasn’t overly sweet and really wasn’t too tart either — it was pretty balanced. I still probably wouldn’t choose a cider over a beer, but I wouldn’t just automatically ignore this or other ciders if they were available.

Are you a cider person?

Into The Pint Glass

  • I’m definitely a cider person. I’m happy this didn’t scared you away from ciders in the future πŸ™‚

    • I’ll at least keep an eye out for the ones you mentioned on your blog πŸ™‚

      • I think Rekorderlig is available in San Diego πŸ™‚

  • I really wanted to try this one, but my husband generally dislikes anything cherry-flavored, so I tried their regular apple cider instead. It was only alright. Maybe next time I’ll go for cherry. πŸ™‚

    • I knew going in I wanted something more than “just” apple. I thought the cherry flavor would be stronger but it was still pretty tasty.

      • Yeah, I felt that way about the apple, too! It wasn’t a very strong flavor, which I found out was because they use normal dessert apples. I guess all their flavors are a bit more subtle?

        • Well now I have to try the apple just to see for myself! And maybe some other brands of cider to compare…

  • I do love ciders and love all the beautiful colors these truity ones have when poured!

    • I wish I could’ve gotten a photo in better lighting to show the color better in this one!

  • It matches your table!! I’m usually not a cherry person, but sounds interesting. I bought the 101 from Bine & Vine πŸ™‚

    • Next time I go there I’ll look for the 101 and the regular Anthem Apple just to sample some others πŸ™‚
